10 Ways To Add Curb Appeal

1.  PAINT- Add a fresh coat of paint to your shutters and trim for a pick me up. If you are looking for something more drastic, I am a huge fan of painted brick. Check out Southern Living’s favorite color combos for some exterior inspiration.

2.     ADD TRIM- It is all in the details. Adding dentil molding provides instant character.

3.     UPGRADE PORCH RAILS- Replace rusty iron railing with Chippendale railing to add southern charm.

4.     NEW ROOF- This is a huge expense most homeowners dread. Luckily, replacing an aged roof not only boosts curb appeal, it adds value to your home.

5.    FRONT DOOR MAKEOVER- Your front door is the perfect place to make a statement and show some personality.

6.    ADD PLANTERS- A great way to incorporate color is with planters full of flowers. I love symmetrical box woods.

7.   OUTDOOR LIGHTING- Solar powered path lights are budget friendly and no installation is required.
8.    LANDSCAPING- Trimming the bushes and adding some fresh mulch to the mix takes a little effort goes a long way.

9.    MAILBOX MAKEOVER- I am going to paint the wooden post and add new numbers. Also, create a small flower bed around it.
10. ADD GREENERY- I love the idea of ivy over the garage or window boxes of low maintenance flowers.

This might be the longest blog post I have ever written. Doug and I are using the holiday weekend to get some work done around our house. I made a list of all the things we needed to do. I am not a fan of yard work so I need all the motivation I can get.

Goodbye Weekend

A couple friends hosted a shower for my friend Jordan.

Jordan loves Paris and the night after she got engaged they went to Paris, so we decided to go with Parisian desserts and a champagne toast.

Parisian desserts from Hereghty's.

I did a little window shopping at the Lilly Pulitzer store. I fell in love with this Britt Ryan dress. It did not come home with me :(

I popped in an estate sale on Sunday. Everything was marked down 50% and I stocked up on some Blue Willow china.

J Crew is having a huge sale and I decided to splurge on the perfect spring sweater.

This Wekend: Spring Clean

The thought of opening the windows, blasting some tunes and getting some spring cleaning done makes me feel giddy.  Check out this handy checklist, courtesy of The Glitter Guide. Look for a major blog sale in the future. I need to get rid of some of the clutter that has taken over my guest bedroom.

5 Things

Thanks to Alex, you will get to know 5 random things you do not know about me.  It is kind of like a game of "tag, you are it" going around blog world. I think a great word to describe myself would be random, so here it goes...

I can ride a unicycle. I went to a weird elementary school that had no sports. Instead, everyone would get out of the car in the morning with his or her unicycle. Luckily, it did not kill my social life because everyone else was doing it.

I am embarrassed I have a blog. I am not naïve. I am fully aware that for every one person that likes your blog, there are 10 people who think you are an idiot. I did not tell anyone I had a blog for about 2 years (except close friends).  Seriously yall, it is kind of dorky and you spend entirely too much time on the internet.  I finally decided if I am going to put so much time into it, I am going to own up to it and be proud.

I hate sheets. I never had sheets until I was married. I get tangled up in the middle of the night. Extra step when making bed. I am over them. You can also add Tyra Banks, pumping gas and drying my hair to the list of things I despise.

I have a real job. Obviously, I am not making money from my current blogging situation. It is not that I do not consider blogging a job. If you are making a living from blogging, more power to you! I have never really got into the details on here. My job could not be more opposite from what you see on my blog. I work for Medicaid Disability and it is furthest thing from frivolous. I was planning on working for 2 years and then going back to get my masters in Social Work. I have been here 5 years.

I have a tattoo. The day I turned 18, I got a tattoo on my foot. I took a ton of my friends home with me , so my Mom would not physically injure me.  I still do not think my Dad knows about it.   Horrible, horrible decision.

Jonathan Adler Does JCPenney

I am just going to throw this out there. This sofa really does it for me. Velvet navy tufts. The price point is not horrible. I need to see it in person to be sold.

Around Our House...

I picked up a new dining room table from Carolina Estate Sales this weekend.

This was my first weekend home in a month. I was excited to do some zhushing.

We went to a wedding at the Carolina Inn.

I finally made a trip to  Furbish. I picked up one of these adorable (and affordable) prints for my gallery wall.

Pretty invites from my pretty friend. I am so excited for May!

New addition to my ceramic dog collection. I picked up this good looking foo dog from Sarah.
Also, my friend Jessica gave me this Jasmine candle from Furbish. It is giving Nest a run for it's money.

Exterior Paint Inspiration

I am having some major commitment issues. I usually have no problem picking paint but when it comes to the exterior of our house, I am kind of freaking out. It is going to be a drastic, expensive change and there is no going back.

I have pretty much decided to go with a white/off white body and light shutters. I am not very worried about shutters because they can easily be changed. Picking the body its he scary part.

We are going to add molding to give the house a little character and a pretty vine over the car port.

This has been one of my favorite color schemes so far! There are no links to paint sources.

This is our current situation. Not horrible, but it's not ideal.  I have finally stopped applying for HGTV Curb Appeal and accepted the fact we are going to have to do something about it.

I have been toying around with Sherwin-Williams paint tester.
trying to test out colors.

Have you had any experiences with painting brick? I am going to test colors on the back of the house first. What are your favorite exterior colors?

Turks and Caicos Family Vaycay

We are back from a week long, much needed vacation. We spent the week in Providenciales, which is in the Turks and Caicos Islands. We stayed in a cute VRBO with my husband's parents, my brother-in-law, and future sister-in-law. We ended up spending quite a bit of time at the Gansevoort, which as walking distance. If I ever made a trip back to the island I would 100% set up shop there.

One of my favorite spots was a local beach bar, off the beaten path called Da Conch Shack.

Another highlight of the trip was a sunset sailboat ride that turned into Spring Break 2013.

I had to steal most of the pictures from my future sister-in-law. Unfortunately, the last night while we were out to dinner someone came in our vacation rental and stocked up on electronics, including my cell phone, Kindle and camera. I have to say I felt  safe the entire time we were there. Our house was located next to a public beach access and I think we were just unlucky. Thankfully, everyone was alright. I have to admit I am a little bummed they got all of my pictures from the weekend.
RIP DSLR :(

Friday Favorites

'Life Is But A Dream' has solidified my love for Beyonce, even though it was pretty solid.  People say we dance very similar, so I was looking forward to a little more dancing.

Rebecca Taylor is really doing it for me this spring. I love the pop of hot pink on this shift.

Speaking of television, Doug and I started watching The Following and I am hooked. I have a weird fascination with cults and Natalie Zea.

In preparation for our vacation, I have been doing some extensive research on beach cover ups. I do not know if anyone else has checked them out lately but $200+ seems to be the norm.  Whaaaa?
It makes $44.50 look good. Red + neon pink happens to be one of my favorite color combos. Also, I look just like this when I put mine on.

I would love to add this Caroline Zuccero Hurley piece to my gallery wall.
