Italy: Tuscany

My favorite part of our trip was our stay in Tuscany. We stayed at Fonte Bertusi. The views were amazing and we could not have asked for better weather and wine.

We took a day trip to Pienza and had one of the best lunches at La Buca di Enea

Cheese shops in Pienza.

Another one of my favorite days was wine tasting at Poggio Antico

Fonte Bertusi at night.

Our last night in Tuscany...

Italy Recap: Florence

Annnnd we are back! I still am feeling some jet lag and may be going through red wine and prosciutto withdrawal.  Doug and I took a much needed vacation with our good friends Dave and Lindsay. We started our trip in Florence.

Day 1 we climbed to the top of the Duomo. The views were amazing.

We visited the market.

Day 2 we walked across the river to Piazzale Michelangelo.

Our traveling buddies Dave and Lindsay.

Day 3 we took a train for a quick trip to Siena

We stayed at the Hotel il Guelfo Bianco
My favorite dinner was at La Giostra
I could eat gelato at  Gelateria La Carria 2 every day for the rest of my life.
Tuscany coming up tomorrow!

hey

Hi. I am awful at blogging and things are not going to get better anytime soon.  I am about to head to Italy for a much needed vacation. This weekend was too wonderful not to share. Doug and I had a wedding in DC. My favorite friend and traveling companion Lindsay was sweet enough to let us crash at her new place. If I could convince my husband to move tomorrow, we would be living in DC in a row house.

We went to a rehearsal dinner for our friends Alli and Chad at Brassiere Beck

My very sweet and thoughtful friend surprised me with tickets to a home tour of renovated homes in her neighborhood.  I plan on making it a tradition.

Note to self. I need to figure out what fabric this is.

Saturday night we went to a wedding in VA. The bride owns a pie shop called Pie Sisters in Georgetown. Of course, for dessert we had pies and they did not disappoint.

Let's catch up

It has been way too long. I have been feeling a little less than inspired lately.  Honestly, I do not have much to say. Work is slowly sucking the life out of me. We had a fun photo shoot at my house this weekend with Cyn Kain. I cannot wait to see/show you the final product.

Pretty much my idea of heaven. Hyla Dewitt jewels everywhere!

My puppies have been keeping me company lately. I chose not to announce to the world wide web that my husband was out of town for five weekends in a row. Luckily, Hank and Roy are great watch dogs and held down the fort while he was away.  My husband is back. For good. Just in case you are creeper.

More randomness...
Raleigh peeps you should check out Bida Manda, a new Laotian restaurant on Blount St.  Order the lettuce wraps, duck and papaya salad and the chicken curry. I could eat there everyday.

I got a Kindle Fire. I need book suggestions.  I feel like I am in a book drought.  I need enough to get me through a week of traveling. On your mark, get set, GO!

When I got the Kindle I got month free to Amazon Prime. I am already loving it! I am starting Downtown Abbey tonight! Does anyone else have Amazon Prime and recommend it or is it just a waste?

Cornice Peek

Let me start this out by saying,  I lack all of the main components it takes to be a successful do it yourselfer- patience, attention to detail and a prescription to Aderall. I prefer to have a full time job so I can pay someone to do my dirty work. Unfortunately, that is usually not the case and I end up having to do it myself. If I can do it, so can you...

We had some old cornices left over from a previous project.
I got 3 yards of foam and 3 yards of fabric and stapled them to the boards.
I used 10 yards of grossgrain ribbon 1 1/2 in. thick and glued that sucker onto the cornice board.
We are still waiting on Ikea curtains to come back from the dry cleaner. I cannot wait to show yall the finished product.

*My friend Catherine was a life saver and suggested using Fabri Tac to glue the ribbon onto the fabric. I tried a couple of other things and nothing else would hold. **

On my mind...

There is not a lot of blogging going on around these parts this week. I am running around like a crazy person trying to finish up some last minute projects around the house and get things together for our trip. Doug and I had some cornices left over from a previous project and have been trying to upholster them and add a greek key trim. DIY is not my thang.

1/2/3

So that is pretty much consuming my mind. Cornice boards. Hopefully, I will have lots of fun stuff to show when we are done.
