I was immediately interested when I found out they had North Carolina roots.
Personally, I perfer high waisted pants to a cocktail dress any day.

Sally King Benedict Pop Up Shop

Sally King Benedict Pop Up Shop going on NOW at Furbish. You really do not even have time to read this post, these are going to go so fast.

I am a huge fan of Sally's faces. I was lucky enough to snag one a couple of years ago at Look Linger Love's flash sale. It was my first piece of original art and it still makes me smile everyday. One of the best investments I have ever made.

I am cold.

Our heat is not working. Even Hank is freezing.
My hands are too cold to blog.

Let's Talk Rugs

I got a new rug for my entry way last week and got a ton of questions about where to find vintage rugs. I am always on the hunt and it took me over a year to find one for our entry. They are not easy to come by and require some persistence.( Disclaimer: They are easy to find if you have a ton of $ to spend.) I have found checking out local antique stores and estate sales are your best bet.

I found the rug in our kitchen on Ebay.
When searching for rugs I usually search-
Tribal rug
Hamaden
Hamadan
Sarouk
Heriz

Another great source is Esale Rugs. They are actually based out of Rock Hill, South Carolina. The site can be overwhelming with so many choices. I tend to stick with "Tribal Rugs".  ECarpet Gallery is similar to Esale with great prices.

Moving on to animal prints. I consider most of them a neutral. They add a layer of sophistication.
While I love an animal print, they can go Real Housewives of New Jersey really fast. Sometimes the cheapest option looks, well, cheap. Do yourself a favor and invest. Animal print is not going anywhere.
Spotted Hide | Giraffe | Antelope | Leopard | Zebra

Clockwise: Diamonds | Border Rug | Jute Flax | Scallop Rug | Madeline Weinrib

My go to sources-
Rugs USA
Urban Outfitters
West Elm
Lulu and Georgia
Esale Rugs
Dash & Albert
Furbish
Madeline Weinrb
Zara Home
Shoppe Amber Interiors
Pottery Barn Teen
ABC Carpet
Company C

Local vendors-
Eatmans
A. Hoke

When it comes to rugs,
SIZE  MATTERS!
Trust me, I get it. I am cheap too. Do not buy any 5x7 rugs. No point unless you are layering them on another rug.

Here is the perfect example of what not to do.
This is my house. I bought this rug 3 years ago.  I bought a 5x7 because it was going to be $150 more to upgrade to an 8x10. I saved $150, but I was never really happy. Let's all be honest. It looks dumb. Pay the extra money, get the bigger rug! You will never regret it.

In a perfect world, we would all have so much money we could have carpet cut and made into the exact size we need for every room. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

There are some great cheat sheets floating around on Pinterest to help choose a rug size.

  • -all of the links take these to blogs without proper credit. anyone know the original source?

Isabel Marant for H&M

The Isabel Marant Collection for H&M is not hitting stores until November 14th.
Looks like Raleigh will not be getting the collection. The closest store will be Atlanta. Luckily, sources are reporting the collection will be available online. I am crossing my fingers. My favorite pieces include slouchy ankle booties and embellished jackets.

A Weekend of Agressive Bargain Shopping

Saturday I went to the Furbish Flea Market.    I went to help my friend who was working the event get some pictures. I had no intentions of shopping for my house. I ended up coming home with two paintings and the largest ginger jar I have ever seen. It got so bad I even contemplated going back for a second round.

There were so many goodies and everything was priced right.
I vote this becomes a monthly occurrence!
You may have missed the flea if you are not in Raleigh,
you can still shop online

My favorite part was the affordable original art, which is so hard to come by.

Never ending goodies including- a tortoise ice bucket, antlers and cheap prints.

Of course, my favorite was a little blue and white corner.

My obsession with all things French continues.
This jar is ginormous. I am kicking myself for not buying his matching pair.

Friday 5

1| A little party in your cube to get you through Friday.

2| I saw these invites. Died. Started planning a holiday cocktail. You are all invited.
3|   There is some new stuff in The Market
I kind of jumped the gun and started this idea.  I was overwhelmed with the number of people who sent in items. I am in the process of gathering my thoughts and getting some terms together.
I will be charging a small commission to sell items and there are going to be some conditions on things that are posted. Thanks for bearing with me while I figure it all out. Feel free to email me.

My only advice would be to get there early. From what I have heard
this is going to be legit. No pushing or shoving allowed.

5 | Messy french twist. Yes, please.

Chintzy Favorites

My favorite fabric of all time has to be Hazelton House's Anne Dorothea. If you have ever been to our house, you know I love a good floral.

When I saw this dress on Pinterest, I immediately fell in love. I assumed it was something stupid expensive. When I found out it was on Mod Cloth I could not restrain myself.  You know there is a problem when you start dressing like your throw pillows.

This sweet lingerie was another chintzy find that I wish I could pull the trigger on. $64 on underwear is where I draw the line.

Note to Self

I do not know if anyone has told you. It is fall. In true blogger fashion I am trying surround myself with all things pumpkin. First up, Trader Joe's Honey Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli. If you are noticing a trend that I only write about ravioli, you would be correct. I can boil water. That is about it.

I love Caroline de Maigret since I first spotted her in the new Madewell campaign.  I think it's a little mix of her bangs and the fact that she is Parisian.
I cannot get enough of her instagram

We turned on the heat in our house for the first time today. Note to self: Zara has some good looking throws.

Is it too much to ask for some bookshelves...

in a hall...

with 9 foot ceilings...

huge molding...

and the perfect vintage rug?
(the link from this gets me no where, anyone know where it is from?)

It's All About Details | The Pursuit of Style Home Tour

Yesterday we got a peek into my favorite bloggers home on The Glitter Guide. Lindsay Souza's style is one that I try and emulate. She embraces color and mixes pattern with ease. She has an eclectic collected style that still feels traditional.

I went through her home tour and fell in love with all the little details.

A tiny place for pretty green matches.
The sunglasses were my favorite touch.
If you know me, you know I love Blue Willow.
Even her light switches are pretty.

Show of Hands | Color Your Cabinets

There are a lot of new things going on around these parts. I decided to have a  new series to fire up some discussions. Two new blog obligations in one week, that is rare.

Anyways, I really wanted to weigh in on people's thoughts about design trends. First up, colored cabinets. I personally would not really call it trend. I think it is pretty classic and can stand the test of time if they are done right. I only prefer dark/moody colors with a glossy finish. This look screams really expensive to me. That can be good, if it is your kitchen. It can be bad, if you are paying for it. Probably not a great choice for resale either. In a perfect world, where I would be living in my house forever and I had unlimited funds there would dark glossy cabinets.

In the real world, I would love to do a butler's pantry.
