Thoughts on random things...

Let's start with the new Domino.  First of all, Sally King Benedict is as aesthetically pleasing as her art.  I really enjoyed her feature and would really like her hair. Unfortunately, the rest of the issue did not impress me as much as the cover. Listen, I get that not every person in the world loves colorful, chintzy, southern style but I expect just a little diversity from Domino. Every single wall in the entire issue is white. While I am not a white wall girl, I get the appeal. It just seems like everything is starting to blend together. Paint your wall white, slap up a Gray Malin piece and call it a day. I want more.

Speaking of color and style, my favorite blogger Bailey stopped blogging this week. I am not going to lie, I am kind of devastated. She is where I find most of my inspiration. She uses color and patterns in a way that is  sophisticated and timeless. She does not take her style seriously, but it feels so refined. In the past year and half blogging has changed so much. Everything became glossy and it feels like there is so much more hate floating around the internet. I cannot say I blame her, but I really hope this is not the last time we will hear from her.

I am addicted to Bravo's new reality TV show, Ladies of London. I cannot decide if I want to be Annabelle or Marissa. The style is amazing.

Interesting article from Design Sponge about asking for what you want.

I am in love with this beveled marble tile for a kitchen backsplash. It is fancy.

I could watch this SYTYCD audition and never get tired of it. Make it full screen!

  1. Totally devastated that Bailey isn't blogging anymore & completely agree re: Domino. Nothing exciting. Interested in your experiences (if any) with leathered absolute black granite, or if you all have used it with your company? We are putting that or negresco honed in our kitchen, but I'm unfamiliar with the leather finish.

    1. I do not have any experience with leathered absolute black. We have been doing a lot of honed tops. I think they look amazing and would probably go honed in my own kitchen. With anything honed you are opening the stone up to scratches, chips, ect. I have also heard some complaints about the dark honed showing everything.

    2. Thanks for the feedback re: honed finish. Just got back from Cosmos and decided on the leathered; it's worth checking it out for anyone wanting the honed look - they told us it's basically bulletproof/tough as nails.

  2. Agree about domino. Although I haven't read the issue, I have the exact same complaint about blogs. Every freaking space looks the same. It's all white walls and gold accents! I need moreeeeee.

  3. YES! I have all of my old Domino mags but haven't bought ANY of the new ones. Same old thing! Tired of white walls and fabric with lots of white in it like chevron. Fabric with white isn't practical for a family home with kids and dogs! LOVE Bailey, so sad to see her go.

  4. Couldn't agree more about the latest issue of Domino. Since their return, I've only really loved the 2nd issue. The 1st and 3rd were very meh.

  5. Amen about Domino. I've been so disappointed. And I'm with you on Bailey, I'm going to miss her terribly.

  6. Call me cheap, but Domino is a freakin magazine, not a hardback book. I see everything eventually on pinterest anyway, so subscribing I did not. Glad to know I'm not majorly missing out. SBK is too pretty with my DREAM HAIR. If only my hair was thick and long. Le sigh.
Bailey is one of the few designers that continually impresses me with her originality and vision. I am sad she is off the blog grid.
Hope you are managing in this heat and humidity. Only all summer left to go!

  8. Sick of the WHITE! Every paint update across the blogosphere is either gray or white. I double dare you to open up a Better Homes & Gardens issue.... Bailey will be sadly missed!
