Hall Bath Makeover Progress

Last week we started our bathroom makeover . We ended up refinishing the tile and tub. I am going to save that for another post. I have lots of thoughts on this and want to show you pictures.

This weekend I started painting cabinets.  We ended up going with the top left, Benjamin Moore Dior Gray. My second favorite was the bottom left, Benjamin Moore Overcoat.
Doug and I have not had any painting projects in a while. I seriously forgot what a pain in the ass it is to paint. And sand. And paint. We still have a full night ahead of us tonight. Anyone who wants to help, I will pay you in wine.

There was a brief discussion about getting a custom shower curtain made. If Madame Farfalla was not $115 a yard the discussion might have been longer. I have searched high and low for good looking shower curtains. Any suggestions?
Thanks to my day job, I am becoming an expert when it comes to faucets. One thing you may not realize is that a good looking faucet can cost a small fortune.  I fell in love with this faucet from Waterworks, basically because I love hot and cold markings on white porcelain. I finally ran across something similar at Wayfair for half the price.

Can someone please design some decent overhead vanity lighting? Scones get all the love. Of course, sconces will not fit in our bathrooms. Pinterest dreams are being crushed. This light was my favorite of the bunch.

I am on a huge polished nickel kick. I wanted something simple and pretty. While I will always love brass, I do think you can over do it.

  1. Oh it is coming along beautifully. Love the color. And agree on the curtains. If only...

  2. Hi Jessie -
We have that light in our powder room and it's gorgeous, but it would be really bad for a main "getting ready" bathroom. It gives only direct lighting which would make makeup and hair difficult. Might want to add some overhead lighting too! Love your bathroom concept though :)

    1. So good to know! We do not have any overhead lighting and I do not plan on adding any. Do you think it is enough light for a guest bath that my husband uses?

  3. Love the color you picked. I just had a custom shower curtain made and I'm in love. Totally worth it as you are right, there are no decent shower curtains out there.

  4. We just installed this light from Lowes by Allen + Roth, it was only $40 and looks almost identical to the one you picked. It would allow for almost two yards of the beautiful fabric! It's actually supposed to be track lighting but can be installed on the wall, exactly like the one you chose

    1. Thank you for your email. It looks almost identical. I wish it came in a 4- Light.

  5. Oh, I can't wait to see this! Love the color that you chose as well as the faucet! As far as shower curtans, why are they so hard to find? They're never long enough! If you have a window, I think you should add a roman shade in that fab fabric...and then monogram a shower curtain to match:)

    1. You are reading my mind. I have to incorporate that fabric! It is too amazing.

  6. so vanity lighting is THE WORST. we currently have the lovely row of bulbs look going on in our master bath. It is the last fixture I have to pick out, but we are only "freshing up" our master bath versus a full on renovation like the hall bath so I don't want to spend a fortune on something that I will likely change in a couple years anyway. Sconces are just not my thing. I saw your pin of the one above which led me to find the fixture for our hall bath. So thanks for that! I can't wait to see your finished product. Love the cabinet color.
    Holler! Summer

  7. Have you gone to Mill Outlet to check out the fabric options for a custom shower curtain? They have beautiful, reasonable fabric.

    1. I have checked Mill Fabric Outlet. I think I ruined everything by getting that fabric in my head.

  8. I close and move into my new house at the end of February. Any shower curtain/faucet/any other recommendations are greatly appreciated! It was built in the 90's and hasn't had any updates since...I see a lot of painting in my future!

    1. Erin! That is so exciting! I am going start doing some round up on the not-so-fun things like faucets soon!

  9. Literally just pinned everything you linked to. Mad respect for painting those cabinets yourself.

    1. Painting is for the birds. The cabinets are 52 years old and no paint is going to save them.

  10. There are no decent shower curtains out there. We recently re did 2 of our bathrooms and the curtains were the biggest challenge. I love the idea of a Roman shade in your fabric and a monogrammed curtain. Have you ever tried fabric guru? They have some awesome options and great prices.

  12. I, for one, agree that brass can be overdone because I live it everyday! Oh well, I'm sure I could have worse vices.
