Life Change | New Job

Be prepared for the longest post ever...

I started this blog right after Doug and I got engaged.   A week after we got engaged we bought our little house. It was so far from what I had ever imagined as my "dream home".  I had just started working and Doug had just finished law school. I remember feeling like I should be so excited but, I just looked at our house and felt a sense of depression. Butter cream walls, butter cream carpet and a kitchen from the 1950's. I decided at that moment that I was going to make the very most of what I had. I started this blog to vent my frustrations and document the progress as I SLOWLY made our house into a home. Somewhere along the way I became a little kooky and consumed with all things design.

Sometime over the past year I became very unhappy with my current job. I took the first job I interviewed for straight out of college. At the time, it seemed like it was perfect for my life plan. Work 2 years and go back to school to get my Masters in Social Work.  Along the way plans changed. I would like to say I am generally a really happy person. I really like my husband, I have the best friends in the world and I talk to my Mom everyday.  I realized that a huge chunk of my puzzle was missing. I hated my job.  It had nothing to do with the actual job, it was more me. I felt stuck. Everyone else was on their 2nd and 3rd jobs, being promoted, chasing dreams and I was stuck in the same place I had been for 5 years.  I started out the year dead set on getting out of my current situation and I was going to do something I love.

I finally put in my resignation last week. Tomorrow is my last day. I am so sad to leave my coworkers but it is time to move forward.  I took a job with JR Huntley Homes. We were lucky enough to work with him on our kitchen renovation and had the best experience. I am so excited to learn more about what I love, share some projects and hopefully even work with some of yall.

Wallpaper Wednesday

Today's Wallpaper Wednesday is brought to you by Matchbook Magazine. Jane Lilly Warren's apartment is an amazing mix of high and low. I love how she mixed Sherwin William's affordable Easy Change Wallpaper with high end Leontine Linens

Wood Working

Blame it on my southern roots, the older I get the more I love a traditional room. Lately, I have been drawn to good looking, solid wood pieces.

In an office...

A dining room...

a bedroom...

an entry way...

a living room.

A little bit of wood can go a long way.

Friday Favorites

In no particular order, I present things that made me happy this week.

1. Thanks to Jordan(my friend who got married last weekend) I have been listening to this non-stop this week. Her wedding ended with a lawn dance party to this song.

2. May at Zara is getting a little chitnzy and I am loving it. Give me this skirt now!
3. I am trying my hardest to hold out until next Wednesday to see The Great Gatsby with my book club, but I am going crazy. In an attempt to be patient I am listening to the soundtrack on repeat.

4. I am working on a rather large project with this gender neutral office in mind.

5. Paris is always a good idea. We are planning a trip to Paris in the fall. More on that next week. I cannot wait to hear all of your recommendations.

And it is Friday. Whatttttttttttt?

Artist Crush: Jenny Andrews-Anderson

Do y'all read MFAMB? I have been following Jenny since I first started blogging. I have always loved her blog. I am going to be honest, when she started painting I was a little skeptical. Kind of like when Mariah Carey decides she is going to be an actor. Skeptical. I have to say I have been proved wrong. Everything she touches I adore and it just keeps getting better and better.
Check out her blog and portfolio.

Currently Obsessed: Budget Buys

I am the type of person who gets set in my fashion ways. I usually associate clear shoes with strippers, but I am dying over these Forever 21 flats. They really remind me of the Naked Rockstuds minus the price tag. Can you get down with the transparent shoe?

Best Weekend Ever.

I am a little sappy this Monday thinking about the past weekend. I got to spend 3 days with my favorite people in the world. There was lots of food and even more wine. My little friend was the most beautiful bride I have ever seen. The wedding was amazing, followed by a barefoot dance party on the front lawn of the wedding venue. I am still cleaning up all the glow sticks and pirates booty.

Thursday night cookout...

The bride to be with her sis and the most beautiful shoes ever.

Great minds think alike.

Rehearsal

The bride and groom.

Pretty bridesmaids.

Beth looking like Gwen.

Told you she was stunning.

Thanks for letting me reminisce. Now everyone come back immediately.

Check out more pictures my insanely talented friend Christine took, here.

Wedding Weekend

I am having a tough time getting through this week. All of my college friends are coming in town Thursday night to celebrate one of my favorite couples, Jordan and RJ. After we graduated we made a point to have a "reunion" every year. It seems like the older we get the harder it gets to find a free weekend. This weekend we finally get our long over due reunion. I am so excited I feel like I cannot think about anything else. Thursday night we are having a cook out at our house followed by a huge wedding weekend.

So please excuse me while I go eat, drink and watch my beautiful friend get married!

Growing things

If I was the type of person who could grow things...

I would probably grow a lemon tree.

Do lemon trees even grow in NC?

Currently Obsessed: Weekend Shopping

Zara Tunic: Zara has really been doing it for me lately. This tunic is no exception.
Furbish Pouch: Not only is Furbish my "go to" for home decor, they are one of my favorite places to find fun accessories.
Flowers for Sallie: We are all on the hunt for original art. Have you seen Lulie Wallace's affordable prints at Anthro?
Glitter Sandals: These are way better looking in person and I may have bought them.
Dress: I am loving all things Clover Canyon lately.

Tassel Sleeve Dress

I saw this adorable Tassel-Sleeve dress on The Glitter Guide's instagram and ordered it immediately.  You can get your tassel fix for only $18.

*It is a girls dress and evidently it runs large. I will report back on sizing.
