I am having some major commitment issues. I usually have no problem picking paint but when it comes to the exterior of our house, I am kind of freaking out. It is going to be a drastic, expensive change and there is no going back.
I have pretty much decided to go with a white/off white body and light shutters. I am not very worried about shutters because they can easily be changed. Picking the body its he scary part.
We are going to add molding to give the house a little character and a pretty vine over the car port.
This has been one of my favorite color schemes so far! There are no links to paint sources.
This is our current situation. Not horrible, but it's not ideal. I have finally stopped applying for HGTV Curb Appeal and accepted the fact we are going to have to do something about it.
I have been toying around with Sherwin-Williams paint tester.
trying to test out colors.
Have you had any experiences with painting brick? I am going to test colors on the back of the house first. What are your favorite exterior colors?

So I have no color advice to give, sorry. But I am so pumped your going to paint. It's going to look amazing. This is the same color scheme I want for our next house. I wouldn't be too proud to knock on doors and ask. No really. I'm sure there are plenty of young people in your hood who've just done this. Stalk them. And then politely knock on their door. I am totally serious.
ReplyDeleteJulia is right, that's how I found our paint color. And then a few years after we painted, I had someone knock on our door. The best way to get the color you want! :)
ReplyDeleteYour house exterior is just like ours! gotta love the brick ranches :). I've pondered since day one about painting our brick house white so I'm excited to see your final product.
ReplyDeleteHey! We live in Raleigh and painted our house 2 years ago. Our house is an old one story brick ranch. I drove around and would go knock on doors to ask what color their house was. We ended up with Sail Cloth by Benjamin Moore. Our inspiration was a house in the cul-de-sac off of Lassiter Mill.
ReplyDeleteHey Jessie! My sister just painted her house on Nottingham. They rode around Raleigh, picked a painted house/shutter combo that they liked and then she get help from a designer to match that exact house color/shutter color. I think it was relatively low cost because she only used an hour of consultation time. I would be happy to pass along the name if you are interested!
ReplyDeleteHey Anderson,
DeleteI have sent some letters to people in the neighborhood but if they do not come through I might try your idea. Who did she use?
I have been trying really hard to convince my husband to let me have our house painted white and he thinks it will be too hard!! I am dying to do it though. That Sherwin Williams tool is SO COOL!!! This is so exciting and I can't wait to see what you decide to do! xo
ReplyDeleteHahaha I love watching HGTV and always hope I'll get to be on one of those ambush shows so I can have a professional whip it into shape. LOVE that Sherwin William tester. Genius!
ReplyDeleteHahaha I always tell myself when I am a homeowner I will be applying to every damn HGTV show possible. And of course, I will definitely get picked and get a brand new free kitchen or giant walk in closet with an amazing master. Or something like that. Right?! I love the look of the white - it'll look amazing.

Getting ready to paint our home again....it is brick. I went to the Christmas Show House here in Atlanta and fell in love with the color combination. The body was Ben Moore OC 23 and the shutters were Ben Moore HC 116. Good luck!
