Our kitchen is DONE. There is not one thing I would change.
Before:
After:
This is the only project that was not a DIY. When I first started reading blogs, I would see someone do a kitchen renovation and I remember thinking that I could not imagine ever being in that place It was kind of depressing, loving design but something like a kitchen renovation seemed unattainable. 3 years later after lots of saving and planning we finally finished our kitchen. It was a huge accomplishment. I think it is important to remember when you are reading these blogs, nothing happens over night.
Den Progress:
2010
There are no words. Things were bad. We painted the brick white. It made a huge difference. I know some people are scared to paint brick because you cannot go back. Paint that mess.
This room is awkward. It is so long and skinny it is hard to do much with it. I would love to add some panels on the windows behind the sofa. Does anyone have a sofa that sits on a window like this? I would love to heard any tips. I thought about putting something to stop the sofa from smashing the panels.
Your home is incredible!! Love the kitchen and dining especially :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. We are currently in the demo phase and it looks so bad. I just keep reminding myself how great it will be when it's complete and gorgeous! I think people forget the time lapse some of us do in blog posts.
ReplyDeleterenovations are no fun but it is so worth it! i think we did not have a kitchen for 3 months.
DeleteLooks great! Gives me hope for my kitchen/bath Reno this year! About the sofa...could you put stained blocks of wood behind the feet? That way the sofa couldn't move so close to the wall. Let me know what your fix is!

You have made SO MUCH PROGRESS! So good seeing you on NYE. Let's get together soon.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Whit
it was so good to catch up. dinner date soon!
Deletemy den is atrociously long and skinny. so awkward. why did anyone designing the beloved brick ranch think that was acceptable? we don't have a tv in ours yet, so we aren't in there much, but it desperately needs some furniture. it bugs the life out of me not having window treatments either, but whatevs. everything looks fantastic! when i made my resolution "visit friends", i was totally thinking 'i have to see Jessie soon!'
ReplyDeleteloving all the glimpse's of the befores. And it does take years of planning and saving to get things right. Thanks for the reminder! As for the sofa smooshed under a window situation. I'm in the same boat and I got back and forth. You can just pull the couch forward enough to not smoosh the panels. But love what you have too
ReplyDeleteYou know I adore your home. After all, I painted stripes on the biggest wall in my house because of you. :) My sofa sits against a large wall of windows. I have drapery panels on the windows, and so they're not squished, I have my couch out a couple inches. How's your bedroom coming along?
ReplyDeletewww.XoLindsay.blogspot.com
i cannot wait to see the reveal! there has been zero bedroom progress.
DeleteYour house looks so great. Your living room and mine are so similar. I have my couch up against the window and just have blinds on that window right now- no valance or curtains at all. I think eventually I'll add a valance like yours but I think my dogs would tear up curtain panels since they live for looking out that window! But you are so right- none of this stuff happens overnight!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why I'm just noticing the color in your kitchen, but what is it? We're moving and I've gotta get some paint colors, pronto!
ReplyDeletehey! it is silver sage from restoration hardware.
Deletenew follower! wow - i love your kitchen makeover. we've been in our house for about a year and i'm dying to re-do our kitchen. but we're not into diy-ing something that big, so hopefully we can pay someone to do it soon. HOPING for this year. excited to look through more of your blog!

ReplyDeleteLove the kitchen! Just curious, what color did you paint the walls? My kitchen is white with black countertops and I am about to paint the walls from a gray to a blue, very similar to yours.
ReplyDeletesilver sage from restoration hardware.

ReplyDeleteIt looks so good Jessie!! Your kitchen is one of my favorites...can't wait to see what else you do!! XoXo
ReplyDeletethanks dominique!! we are enjoying it. happy new year!
DeleteStill need to know where this tortoise table is from!!!
ReplyDeleteit was a ej victor sample. i have no clue where you can normally find them and i would be scared to see how much it would cost retail. i will keep an eye out if the place in my hometown has any more tortoise stuff.
DeleteAmazing progress. The kitchen is gorgeous! Love the colors, farmhouse sink & subway tile!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a working fire place & if so do you use it? Considering painting ours white, but its really old and a little stained from 80+ years of use, plus we use it regularly in the winter..so a little hesitant.
What a beautiful kitchen! I love the mixture of the brass pendants and stainless steel appliances. I always think that silver and gold are besties!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is divine! I also am hugely admiring your coffee table - and I have been trying to talk my mom into painting her brick fireplace for a few years now. What an impact! Happy New Year!

Your kitchen looks lovely! I love your white tiles and the gold light fixtures!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to see a house this organized! Both of the rooms look very neat and in order. In fact, the remodeling gave them a beautiful cohesion. Brick fireplaces do need makeovers. Those reddish-brown colored bricks belong outside, not inside the house! Good choice painting yours white! :)
ReplyDeleteNice blog! and nice design of kitchen, this type of kitchen make homes attractive.
