Italy in the Fall...

Last week Doug and I purchased plane tickets to travel to Italy in October. We are going with another couple, which makes it that more exciting. Over the past couple years we have really missed out on traveling. There was a wedding, a house, renovations, jobs. We are finally at a place where we can take a little time for ourselves and actually live. I am counting down the days. Now here is where you come in my amazing, world travleing blog friends, what are your suggestions? What are your favorite parts of Italy? Any tips? Books? Tell me everything!

  1. Oh my gosh, so jealous!! You are going to have such an amazing time!! So here are my suggestions and if you go to these places, let me know because I have hotel and restaurant and activity recommendations too! So... Rome for sure. Florence is amazing but Rome is my favorite "city" there. Then either do Cinque Terre/Santa Marghrita/Portofino or do Positano/Amalfi Coast. You can't go wrong with either option. Cinque Terre is reallllly inexpensive and gorgeous. Positano is glamorous and and equally as gorgeous. You will love anywhere you go! Email me if you want more details!!!

  7. Going shopping in the leather market in Florence is fun but I found the most beautiful leather handbag (turquoise no less) at the Santa Croce Cathedral leather school. The church is a major site to see in and of itself, but behind the church is a leather school. You can see people creating leather goods and there is an amazing store with handbags, wallets, jackets, other clothes, jewelry...anything. The leather is like butter and there was nothing else in the markets like it. I returned the next day to make the purchse. I was able to negotiated a little better deal with the gentleman who was helping me the second day as opposed to the woman who helped me the first day too. Its absolutely a must see shopping experience.

  9. We went to Venice and Amalfi Coast (Positano and Capri) on our honeymoon. The Amalfi Coast remains my favorite place in the world -- stunningly beautiful and delicious food. We have vowed to go back every 5 years for our big anniversaries and plan to stick to it! Last year we traveled with another couple and stopped by Lake Como -- if you go north it was gorgeous too.
    So fun!!

  11. Hey! If you want info/details shoot me an email...Andrew and I just got back from a 2 week trip to Italy. We did Rome, Florence, Venice and Positano/Amalfi Coast. I HIGHLY recommend Rome and the Amalfi Coast...you wont be disappointed. You can find great leather, silver and jewelry in Florence but you don't need but maybe 2 or 3 days there and only 1-2 in Venice in my opinion. I have lots of hotels, restaurants, shops, etc so let me know if you want info!

    XoXo

  14. You will have an amazing time. Where are you flying in and out of? There's so much to see, but you don't want to pack too much into one trip! I've been to Varenna (on Lake Como), Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Positano, Rome, and Sicily, so I'd love to give you advice on wherever you're going!

  15. My husband and I have done Rome, Florence, Tuscany, and Sicily. We loved, loved, loved Rome and Tuscany. I have an email with recommendations for Italy; so when you decide, let me know! Also, I had heard about the Blue Guide books to cities. They are pretty detailed in regards to art and history, but we found we could use them without needing a tour guide. Also, we used Context Tours in both Rome and Florence, and my husband and I really enjoyed them. They have different themes, and even food and wine tours. They're a little more detailed than your average overview, but the guides were really interesting and fun, plus the groups are small.
